The Government established the college in 1951 and since Maharaja Lukhdhirji of Morbi donated his palace to the college, the Institute was named after him. The college is situated on the bank of river Machhu, in Morbi, L. E. College campus boasts of a palatial building, workshops, a swimming pool, a badminton court and a vast expanse of a sports field and boys and girls hostels. With these, it occupies the position of pride of having one of BIGGEST TECHNICAL EDUCATIONAL CAMPUS in Gujarat state

Apart from the three basic faculties of Civil, Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, the era of Specialization courses had dawned in 1972 when the college started the faculty of Production Engineering. Also the following courses are there in the college at present :

Till now, more than 10,000 students have passed out of the college from varous Degree, Diploma & Certificate Courses. This in the HIGHEST NUMER as Compared to any other technical institution of the state. Engineers Graduated from this institution, today, occupy places of pride in the industrial fields like the P.W.D., G.E.B., Public & Private sectors & the Armed Forces. In the educational field, the institution has produced Professors, Directors of Technical Education, Chairman of Technical Examination Board, Advisors in Dept. of science & Technology and vice chancellors of universities.

With a view to cater to the needs of technical education in Saurashtra region of Gujarat, Morbi Technical Institute was commenced in 1931.  The late Honorable his highness Lukhdhirji donated his palace with 40 acres of land, in 1951 on the bank of river Machhu, aptly named after Lukhdhirji. Thus MTI  could be upgraded to its present state as Lukhdhirji Engineering College .

      Initially the L. E. College was established to offer conventional degree courses in disciplines like Civil, Mechanical  and Electrical Engineering. Gradually the diversified disciplines like Industrial, Production, Power Electronics and Information  Technology were introduced at the degree level and the ceramic at the diploma level besides conventional diploma courses stated in the table given below. The college is approved by AICTE and affiliated to Saurashtra University , Rajkot , ( Gujarat )  which accredited four star university  by NAAC.

    

Location

       Morbi is located on National Highway No. 8 on Bamanbor (Chotila) - Kandla route. Morbi is well connected from almost all parts of Gujarat through State Transport service. It is 70 Km. away from Rajkot district place. Morbi is around 190 Km. away from Ahmedabad. ST and Private buses are available at regular intervals to reach Morbi from Rajkot and Ahmedabad. On Railway line Morbi is 27 Km away from Wankaner Junction of Ahmedabad - Rajkot Route. From Wankaner to Morbi DEMU rail service is available at regular interval and at arrival of major trains at junction, up to Nazar Baug railway station which is 1 Km. away from the Institute. Morbi is also on the way to Rajkot - Bhuj railway line.
